Budgam, Jul 22 (KNO): A delegation of the Kashmir Traders & Manufacturers Federation (KTMF), led by its president, on Wednesday visited flash flood-hit Beerwah in Budgam district, expressed solidarity with affected traders, sought adequate relief and compensation and praised local police for their timely rescue efforts during the disaster.
In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said a high-level delegation of the Kashmir Traders & Manufacturers Federation (KTMF), led by its President Mohammad Yaseen Khan, visited Beerwah to express solidarity with traders affected by the devastating flash floods that caused widespread destruction in the town.
He said the KTMF delegation inspected the damaged market area where several shops suffered extensive losses and an entire shopping complex was swept away by the floodwaters. The delegation also interacted with the affected traders and assured them of KTMF's unwavering support during this difficult time.
“During the visit, the KTMF delegation held an interaction with the Beerwah Local Traders Federation and its office bearers to take stock of the situation and understand the immediate concerns of the business community. The Federation, led by its President Mohammad Irshad, apprised the delegation of the extensive losses suffered by traders due to the flash floods, including the destruction of shops, merchandise and business infrastructure. Assuring the local traders of KTMF's full support, President Mohammad Yaseen Khan said the Federation would vigorously pursue the matter with the government to ensure timely relief, adequate compensation and a comprehensive rehabilitation package for all affected traders,” the spokesperson said.
He also applauded the prompt and courageous role of the local police in rescuing traders and helping them move to safety during the flood. He said the timely intervention of the police prevented further loss of life and reflected their commitment to public service in times of crisis.
The spokesperson said small traders are the backbone of the local economy and deserve timely financial assistance to help them restart their businesses. He said the delegation reiterated that KTMF would continue to pursue the matter with the administration to ensure genuine traders receive adequate compensation and all possible support for the restoration of their livelihoods.
“The delegation comprised senior KTMF functionary Qazi Tauseef, President Narbal Traders Association Mohammad Muzaffar, Patron Narbal Traders Association Abdul Ahad Parray, President Magam Traders Federation Mir Ulfat, General Secretary Magam Traders Federation Ajaz Abdullah, senior member Magam Traders Federation Manzoor Ahmad Dar, President Shalteng Traders Association Bilal Ahmad Dar and others, who also expressed their solidarity with the affected traders and assured them of KTMF's continued support.”
He added that KTMF prayed for the well-being of all those affected and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the interests of the trading community across Jammu and Kashmir—(KNO)
